WHAT WAS THE POINT ?
Another Game Jam where the point is to make a game in small teams or solo in a very limited amount of time. For teams, we get 72 hours. We actually had school on Monday so we had a little less than that. Regardless, we managed to come up with something we were happy with. We wanted to try a new technology we had not used before, so we went with HaxePunk, a 2D Game Engine.
WHAT I ENDED UP DOING...
Getting used to the new language and game engine was not a big deal. The engine is similar to a lot of engines we see nowadays and even looked like the small custom engines we used to do during the first year (the logic). I worked on the player movements and behaviors as well as the combat system. I did some of the level design as well.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM IT !
A new language and technologies are always nice, it helps to become more versatile. I learned from that and working in very short amount of times puts a lot of pressure on your shoulder, so that helps to get to know your limits a bit better. We had to come up with solutions as problems came along. Overall, I learned a lot from this Jam, and it helps put things in perspective compared to other big long-term projects that are a bit more abstract in the moment. Having some result and some fun during a week-end is always good.
